Patient Safety, Quality Outcomes and Efficiency

EmCare Anesthesia Services safety and quality improvement initiatives are helping hospitals improve metrics, satisfaction and patient safety. Through standardization and improved coordination of care, EmCare Anesthesia assists clients with improving outcomes, streamlining the patient experience and reducing costs. We work to reduce the cost of care, decrease complications, decrease LOS and improve satisfaction through systematic approaches, smart technologies and talented leadership.

Patient Safety

EmCare has developed a training program which incorporates a number of major industry standards. We follow the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) provided by The Joint Commission to improve patient safety, which help focus on issues and solutions as prioritized by the Sentinel Event Advisory Group. We address Core Measures and the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP). And we support the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) voluntary reporting program.

Quality Outcomes

In addition to the proven quality management plan used by our skilled team of anesthesia leaders, EmCare employs a number of external quality outcomes programs that use reporting to provide statistically-validated measurement. We comply with the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) initiatives as established and updated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Joint Commission. We participate in the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI) for education and quality feedback and are partnered with the ASA’s preferred risk-analysis firm, ensuring peer-reviewed data. We have relationships with productivity measurement groups, and we use satisfaction analysis tools including a real-time survey solution.

Our proprietary databank gives us access to benchmark against 700,000 cases. In alignment with hospital goals, this data is used to identify areas for improvement and design best practice protocols. The databank provides:

  • Concurrent review of outcomes for proactive risk management
  • Mechanisms to track and trend practice patterns
  • Analysis of critical incidents for timely identification of issues
  • Local, regional, and national benchmarking

EmCare uses lean methodologies to provide cost-effective solutions to boost O.R. efficiency and case throughput. It can also position partnering healthcare organizations to compete as leading surgical facilities.

By eliminating waste and improving coordination of care, EmCare is able to assist clients with maximizing value to their patients and improving working relationships with the patient’s caregivers. We work to reduce the cost of care, decrease complications, decrease length of stay and improve satisfaction.

When maximum efficiency is achieved, surgeons can fluidly and safely execute procedures for one patient and promptly welcome the next. To achieve that objective, thorough and accurate preoperative assessments, on-time starts and well-organized O.R.s are mandatory. In order for hospital leaders to navigate the changing healthcare landscape — fused with clinical excellence, experienced leadership, effective O.R. utilization and innovative management strategies — efficiency will simply be mandatory. EmCare is focused on achieving that objective.
