Physician Profile: Safi Madain, DO

EmCare will regularly recognize some of the outstanding clinicians who are helping us make healthcare work better.

In less than two short years, Safi Madain, DO, has created an environment of multidisciplinary collaboration, teamwork and employee satisfaction at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center.

As the Medical Director of Adult and Pediatric Emergency Services at the Webster, Texas-based hospital, Dr. Madain consistently strives for clinical and operational improvement for patients, staff and hospital administrators.

In the last year, Dr. Madain has led his team in developing a Performance Improvement Committee focused on increasing productivity and department throughput. This team architected a new front-end process that has decreased arrival-to-greet time from 56 minutes to 16 minutes, among other improvements.

His leadership skills have helped transform a “disconnect group” in the ED into an engaged and enthusiastic, committed team that is proud to wear the “EmCare green,” according to his staff.

Dr. Madain is working with the nursing staff to decrease ED hold time and further improve quality of care. In fact, under Dr. Madain’s leadership, Clear Lake Regional Medical Center ranked No. 1 in EmCare’s Gulf Coast Division for patient satisfaction for the 4th quarter of 2014.

His staff describes him as compassionate, approachable, dedicated and empathetic, and notes that Dr. Madain often is a resource for peers seeking guidance and support.

Dr. Madain received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and his medical degree from Touro University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed two years of family medicine at the Baton Rouge General before completing his residency in emergency medicine at Louisiana State University. Prior to joining EmCare, Dr. Madain was an attending emergency physician at several facilities in Texas and Louisiana.
