EmCare is pleased to congratulate Gretchen Heery, DrNPc, MSN, FNP, BC on being selected by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as “Nurse Practitioner of Excellence for Pennsylvania”.  Heery has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for the past 12 years, working with various locum tenens assignments, managing and  practicing as a nurse practitioner in 2 nurse practitioner run offices and most recently finding a home with Blue Mountain Health System in Pennsylvania.

Heery has a broad spectrum of experience, from emergency room and ICU to pediatrics, family practice, hospitalist and burn trauma.  “This variety of experience, I believe, provided unique perceptions to health care and health care needs.” said Heery. “It allows for creativity, change, different outlooks and innovation.”

Heery is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (BSN) and University of Scranton (MSN).  She is currently enrolled at Drexel University, with plans to finish her research and graduate this year.  Heery also spent four years in the Air Force as an officer, before being discharged as a Captain.  She is married with four sons and resides in Lehighton, PA.  In her free time, Heery enjoys spending time with her family, attending her son’s sporting events, and caring for her farmette animals including a donkey, chickens and sheep.  She enjoys creating activities for growth and knowledge within her community.  She and her husband created and run a yearly basketball summer camp for children ages 3-7 and 7-12 years old.  In addition to all this, she teaches nursing education classes at the local university and runs community education classes related to health and well-being.  She considers this award a great honor because she was nominated by a previous patient, which she considers the core of the purpose of her practice style.

Heery will be honored at the national AANP conference in Nashville, Tennessee in June 2014.
