EmCare Hosts Residents’ Night Out at the Pittsburgh Pirates Game

EmCare’s National Residency Program provides important educational support and specialized attention to incoming residents.

By Jamie Morgan, National Residency Program Coordinator

On Wednesday, July 8, EmCare hosted a night out for residents at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Local emergency medicine, internal medicine and family practice residents from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Allegheny General Hospital and The Washington Hospital joined EmCare to learn more about the company and clinical opportunities available nationwide.

Rain during the first half of the game didn’t stop anyone from having a good time. Residents huddled inside to network with EmCare’s physician leadership and recruitment team. Recruiters Doreen Laessig, Alisha Maaskant and Julie Burger, representing EmCare’s North and Alliance divisions, spoke about moonlighting and full-time opportunities. Local physicians Drs. Tom Pirosko, Matt Lee and Shawna Gelormino provided insight into what it’s like working for EmCare and shared their personal experiences during residency.

Residents learned about job opportunities that are available when they complete their residency and the benefits of signing a contract with EmCare during their senior year through the “Earn While You Learn” program. And now, through EmCare's partnership with SoFi, residents who commit to joining EmCare within one year of signing a contract are eligible for student loan refinancing (physicians can save an average of $30,000 through the program). Residents can place their loans on deferment (no payment will be due but interest will accrue) and their first payment will be due after they start working.

The night ended with a win for the Pittsburgh Pirates and a successful event for the National Residency Recruitment Team with a full suite of 30 residents and their guests in attendance.

The National Residency Recruitment team hosts educational dinners and events like this for programs throughout the country. If you’re interested in arranging an educational dinner or participating in an upcoming event, please contact the National Residency Team at 215-442-5069.
