Mustafa Sardini, M.D., Honored as 2017 Hospital Medicine Physician of the Year

Mustafa Sardini, M.D., the site medical director at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Texas, has been honored with Envision Physician Services’ 2017 Hospital Medicine Physician of the Year award.

“It is an absolute honor to receive this prestigious award,” Sardini said. “I greatly appreciate my colleagues for their support and all their hard work and sacrifices in helping make this a top-performing facility.”

"Dr. Sardini has been instrumental to our continued quality, operational and cultural improvements here at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Sunnyvale,” said Collin LeMaistre, chief executive officer. When talking about his exceptional leadership skills and ability to mentor stakeholders across the organization, LeMaistre said, “He has been transformational for this hospital.”

Sardini has successfully spearheaded efforts to improve the patient experience as well as documentation and reimbursement practices. He has also collaborated with emergency department leadership and all staff members to enhance operational efficiency and raise quality standards. Colleagues say Sardini’s passion for hospital medicine and dedication to improving patient outcomes is evident in his infectious smile, eagerness to mentor others and attention to detail.

Sardini was presented with the award during the Envision Physician Services 2017 Annual Leadership Conference held in Las Vegas April 18-20. In addition to recognizing a hospital medicine physician, Envision Physician Services honors leading physicians in emergency medicine, radiology and acute surgery.

Mark Lieser, M.D., Honored as 2017 Acute Surgery Physician of the Year

Mark Lieser, M.D., the medical director for Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas, received Envision Physician Services’ 2017 Acute Surgery Physician of the Year award.

“It is an incredible honor to be recognized by my colleagues – all of whom I admire for their clinical expertise and commitment to our patients,” said Lieser, a 6-year Envision Physician Services-affiliated physician. “Through our ongoing support for one another and continued collaboration, we are able to ensure patients receive the best and most appropriate care and have a positive experience.”

“With his leadership, we quickly achieved Level II trauma status, and look forward to continued success as a high-performing regional trauma center,” said Bill Webster, chief executive officer for Medical Center Health System.

Lieser has worked with colleagues to establish and implement quality care practices for patients with critical injuries, orthopedic injuries and those requiring massive transfusion. Lieser, who has been described as a leader by diligence and sacrifice, is well-respected for his exceptional clinical performance, foresight, leadership and dedication to enhancing the delivery of care in the acute surgery setting. Colleagues say he is a strong and invaluable mentor who fosters a collaborative work environment.

“At the foundation of every good trauma program, is a cornerstone trauma medical director – frequently referred to as 'the glue that holds the program together,'” said Jonathan Dayton, chief operating officer of the surgical services division at Envision Physician Services. “Dr. Lieser's leadership surpasses the glue. He has an uncanny ability and passion for organizing diverse clinicians, resources and program objectives, resulting in a paramount patient experience.”

Lieser was presented with the award during the Envision Physician Service 2017 Annual Leadership Conference held at the Wynn in Las Vegas April 18-20. In addition to honoring the year’s top surgeon, Envision Physician Services recognizes leading physicians in emergency medicine, hospital medicine and radiology.

Guillaume Boiteau, M.D., Honored as 2017 Radiology Physician of the Year

Guillaume Boiteau, M.D., a radiologist at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas, received Envision Physician Services’ 2017 Radiology Physician of the Year award for his exemplary work and commitment to his patients, profession and colleagues.

“I am extremely humbled by and grateful for the recognition by my peers,” Boiteau said. “I truly enjoy working with my colleagues and providing highly individualized, evidence-based and quality care to my patients.”

“Dr. Boiteau has built an unbelievable reputation among the medical staff, nonclinical staff and community as a whole,” said Thomas Seay, M.D., site medical director at Envision Physician Services, admiring the positive and inspiring demeanor of his colleague. According to Seay, Boiteau has an exemplary work ethic and calm bedside manners. “Oftentimes, you will find Dr. Boiteau working late in the evening doing a procedure or reading a complex cancer follow-up before the sun rises. In a fast-paced radiology environment, it is difficult to remain calm and focused. Dr. Boiteau does just that.”

Boiteau remains vigilant about studying and implementing radiology best practices. He also collaborates frequently with multi-specialty physicians to adopt a comprehensive approach to patient care. Colleagues say Boiteau shares the same level of commitment to advancing the staff and the hospital’s strategic goals as he does to improving the outcomes of his patients.

Boiteau was honored with the award during Envision Physician Services 2017 Annual Leadership Conference held in Las Vegas April 18-20. In addition to recognizing the year’s top radiologist, Envision Physician Services honors leading physicians in anesthesia, emergency medicine, hospital medicine and acute surgery.

James Rhee, M.D., Honored as 2017 Emergency Physician of the Year

James Rhee, M.D., Honored as 2017 Emergency Physician of the Year

James Rhee M.D., FACMT, FACEP, FAAEM, medical director at Corona Regional Medical Center in Corona, Calif., received Envision Physician Services’ 2017 Emergency Medicine Physician of the Year award.

“I am thrilled to be selected as one of Envision Physician Services’ Physicians of the Year,” Rhee said. “I would like to acknowledge the dedicated team members at Corona Regional Medical Center whom I am proud to work alongside every day. We constantly strive for excellence and, in our short time together, have built a strong foundation for which we provide quality, patient-centered care.”

“Dr. Rhee took over as the director of the emergency room at a time when there was a need for strong physician leadership and a change in culture,” said Mark Uffer, chief executive officer at Corona Regional Medical Center. “He has helped recruit a stable core of providers that demonstrates daily the commitment to quality care and service. We find him to be a calm and calculating director who is committed to the vision of our administration and the values required to be the hospital of first choice in the market."

In his two years at the facility, Rhee has applied his clinical expertise and strong leadership skills to improve operational efficiency and enhance the patient experience. Within 11 months, he helped reduce the amount of time between patients’ arrival and consultation with a physician from 70 minutes to 27 minutes. Since implementing Lean principles to improve patient flow and experience, he has been asked to consult Corona Regional Medical Center’s partnering hospitals in Las Vegas.

“Dr. Rhee’s dedication to his team members and the patients he serves is unparalleled,” said Thom Mayer, M.D., regional chief executive officer for Envision Physician Services. “Through his strong leadership abilities, evidence-based practices and commitment to excellence, he has been able to implement substantial and far-reaching improvements in the clinical operations and employee culture at Corona Regional Medical Center. In a word, Dr. Rhee is an exemplary physician.”

Rhee was presented with the award during the Envision Physician Services 2017 Annual Leadership Conference held in Las Vegas April 18-20. In addition to honoring the year’s top emergency medicine physician, the organization recognizes leading physicians in hospital medicine, radiology and acute surgery.
