Patrick J. McHugh, DO, MBA, FACEP

Dr. Patrick J. McHugh joined EmCare in 2015 as an executive vice president for the EmCare Alliance Group. Before coming on board with EmCare, McHugh was a partner with Fredericksburg Emergency Medical Alliance, Inc. in Fredericksburg, Virginia. During his time in Virginia, McHugh held numerous positions in physician informatics, risk management, finance and operations. He also spearheaded the selection and implementation of a new electronic medical record for the Mary Washington Healthcare system at three emergency departments caring for over 130,000 patients per year. Finally, McHugh sat on the Board of Directors of the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians for three years working to advocate for emergency physicians throughout the state.

Before relocating to Virginia, McHugh served as Director of the Muhlenberg Campus Chest Pain Center for the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Prior to this he served in the United States Army as deputy chief of emergency medicine at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany; chief of emergency medicine of the 212th Combat Support Hospital in Miesau, Germany; and chief resident for emergency medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

McHugh is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is a fellow of both the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He graduated medical school from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His bachelor of arts in political science from Villanova University lends an insightful perspective on the role of governmental regulation in the business of healthcare. Prior to his pursuit of a career in medicine, McHugh worked in sales and marketing management, developing skills in goal alignment, strategy and communication. He received his master of business administration degree from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2016.

He is married to a fellow emergency physician and has three children. He is dedicated to supporting clients in the EmCare Alliance Group’s Continental and MidAmerica divisions. McHugh is also proud to advocate for his physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners with the understanding that professional stability and satisfaction serve EmCare’s employees and customers.
